DOG FRIENDS - AUCKLAND REGION & RODNEY - OCTOBER 2013 NEWS
SOME GREAT NEWS BUT ANOTHER HICCUP FOR OTHERS ....
When we spoke at a recent Auckland Council meeting we argued that the time and season rule in the new Auckland Dog Policy should come into effect automatically on ALL Auckland beaches that currently have such a rule. Auckland Councillors were very supportive and asked Council staff to speed up the process but Council staff insisted that more public consultation was necessary ..... big sigh!
THANK YOU to all you wonderful people who once again made a very big effort to get over 1,600 signatures on our recent petition to support the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board in their effort to implement the region wide summer time and season beach rule in the new Auckland Dog Policy.
HIBISCUS & BAYS BEACHES
We are happy to confirm that from Saturday 26 October the prohibited times for dogs on beaches from Campbells Bay to Waiwera will be 10 am to 5 pm from the Saturday of Labour Weekend to 1 st March. We are extremely grateful to Gaye Harding for battling for 10 years for fairer summer beach hours and to the rest of the Local Board for their support to finally achieve this result.
OTHER AUCKLAND BEACHES
We expect that the success of Hibiscus & Bays Local Board will help other Local Boards but sadly the existing times and season on all other Auckland beaches will remain unchanged for a while. We are in contact with members of some other Local Boards and hope that it will not be too long before ALL dog owners in the Auckland Region can enjoy the new summer beach hours in the Dog Policy which came into effect on 1 July.
We will keep you up to date via newsletter and on our Facebook page as the wheels of bureaucracy grind on .... more sighs!!!
